This is the second time in the past three seasons that the Hokies' men's soccer team has been ranked in preseason while this is the first time that VT women's soccer has been ranked preseason since 2016.
Virginia Tech men's soccer has reached its highest levels in a long time as the Hokies have made three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances and won at least one game in each appearance.
There's plenty of reason to have confidence that the Hokies' men's soccer team could even be a national title threat as they return their starting goalkeeper along with every player who scored at least one goal last season.
Meanwhile, Hokies' women's soccer is back on the rise after winning a pair of NCAA Tournament games to escape a short rebuild. Virginia Tech is built to continue to rise over the next few years with a pair of star attackers in Karlie Johnson and Emily Gray who led the Hokies in goals and assists respectively as freshmen last year.
The men's soccer team will open their season in Los Angeles against Loyola Marymount on August 30th after three scrimmages while the women's soccer team will open their season on August 22nd at Thompson Field against Liberty on ACC Network Extra.
