After posting two blowout victories this week, Virginia Tech finds itself receiving more votes in the AP Poll and moving up to No. 13. The latest rankings find Tech two spots above its previous rank of No. 15.
The Hokies beat VMI 89-68 on Wednesday before defeating South Carolina State 81-44 yesterday, convincing the voters that they are worthy of moving up a few spots. Tech has blown out its last three opponents and its scoring margin is up to 24.4 points.
Other teams around the ACC that find themselves in the rankings this week include No. 2 Duke, who moved up a spot from No. 3. No. 6 Virginia has dropped two spots from last week’s rankings. Florida State is the third ACC team in the top 10, coming in at No. 10 this week.
No. 12 North Carolina and No. 25 Syracuse round out the ACC teams in the Top 25. NC State is on the outside looking in, receiving 26 votes this week.
The Hokies haven’t played much tough competition yet this season, facing only one ranked team in Purdue. Their matchup against Washington on Saturday will be their third against a Power 5 opponent this season, and a victory should move the Hokies closer to the top 10 in the rankings.
Tech has three more games before it gets to the conference schedule, where it will face more ranked opponents, starting with Virginia on Jan. 15.
