As high school football starts in Virginia, the Virginia Tech Hokies recently extended an offer to a former Virginia resident now in Georgia in three-star DT Malachi Madison.

Madison told us that he was "happy and excited" to receive the offer from the Hokies and added this about his conversation with Virginia Tech's staff was as a whole when he received that offer.

"It was good. I was on the phone with all of them on a group facetime. We just had a good conversation and talked about moving forward and building our relationship," Madison said.

So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?

"It’s still early but I feel like they really like me and want me there so I’m excited," Madison said. "As of right now, it's early, but I like their vibe so they are highly considered."

So why are the Hokies "highly considered" for him? Madison credits it in part to his conversation with Tech's staff when he received his offer along with his Virginia roots that add extra appeal to the Hokies.

In the meantime, Tech will have plenty of high-end competition as Madison shared that the teams that have been standing out for him included Mississippi State, Iowa State, West Virginia, Liberty, Appalachian State, and Troy. However, it definitely seems like Tech will have a great opportunity to break into that group.

Malachi Madison is being recruited as a three-technique defensive tackle with the Virginia native being an example of how Tech is continuing to try to get bigger on the defensive line as a 6'3'', 275-290 pound defensive lineman as a junior in high school with the frame to grow into that.

Looking ahead, Madison has told us that he plans to make a decision this summer, and had this to say about what the key factors will be for it.

"Who I have the best relationship with and who can help me reach my goals," Madison said.

Keep an eye on Virginia Tech as the Hokies are definitely in contention for the talented Virginia native.
