Virginia Tech offensive guard Jesse Hanson announced that he is medically retiring from football due to an unspecified injury.

Hsnson retires from football after spending four seasons with the Hokies playing in 26 games while starting all 11 games for VT at left guard this past season. His medical retirement was hinter at by Brent Pry during ACC Kickoff on Wednesday with Pry telling reporters that Hanson was unlikely to play this season for the Hokies due to injuries.

With Hanson's medical retirement, the battle at right guard seems to be a two-man battle between Gardner-Webb transfer Clayton Frady and veteran backup Bob Schick with Frady being the favorite to win the job. This was going to be a starting battle regardless, but Hanson's medical retirement hurts VT's depth on an offensive line that already had depth concerns.

We will have more as this story develops.
