Virginia Tech offensive lineman Gunner Givens announced that he will enter the transfer portal.
Givens only played five games in two years with the Hokies: two in 2024 and three in 2023. He becomes the fourth O-lineman to exit Blacksburg, joining starters Xavier Chaplin and Braelin Moore, and backup Lance Williams.
Prior to the 2024 season, Givens lined up on the defensive line for his first two seasons with Tech in 2022 and 2023. However, he did not see the field in 2022 and recorded a single tackle in 2023.
After switching to the offensive line in 2024, Givens made brief appearances in the two-deep depth chart this season but never was able to come close to breaking into the regular offensive line rotation.
With three years of eligibility remaining, Givens hopes to rejuvenate his career with a new program for the 2025 college football season.
Givens' departure isn't a major surprise and doesn't change the reality that the Hokies need to bring in at least 2-3 offensive linemen in this portal cycle.
