He’s the first Hokie to announce his entrance since the end of the season and James Franklin becoming head coach.
The redshirt junior didn’t take a single snap for the Hokies this year as the third-string quarterback after transferring to Virginia Tech last offseason from Oklahoma State. He was part of the 30 new transfers brought in last offseason and the lone quarterback in that group.
Before his time in Blacksburg, he spent three years with the Cowboys, where he had 13 total appearances and four starts, three as a true freshman. In his appearances, he totaled 1,075 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions on a 53% completion clip.
The quarterback position is the headliner for the Hokies this offseason, with all their options on the table in finding their starter. The transfer portal will come into play as they look and decide who their signal caller will be next year.
Garret Rangel will have one year of eligibility left at his next destination.
