Wells started every game for the Hokies in 2022 before starting the first two games in 2023 prior to suffering an injury against Purdue, with Kyron Drones passing Wells on the depth chart after that. Wells will have one year of eligibility remaining should he choose to enter the transfer portal.
In 2022, Wells threw for 2,171 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions plus a 59.0% completion percentage while running for 205 yards and six touchdowns in 11 starts. This past season, Wells threw for 521 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 55.1% completion rate while running for 75 yards and one touchdown in five games which included two starts.
