Following today's practice, Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry told media members including our Will Locklin at a media availability that freshman QB Pop Watson has been suspended indefinitely from the team for a violation of team rules.

It is unknown at this time the specific reasoning for Watson's suspension beyond it being a violation of team rules.
Watson had entered the fall as Virginia Tech's third-string quarterback after Watson passed Devin Farrell and Tahj Bullock on the depth chart in the spring, both of who transferred out to Rhode Island and Akron respectively following spring practice. Dylan Wittke had been pushing Watson for the third-string job but Watson received second team reps in practice last week with Grant Wells extremely limited due to injury.
For now, that leaves Virginia Tech with only two scholarship quarterbacks who are healthy and not suspended in Kyron Drones and Dylan Wittke who is currently the backup until Wells or Watson return. Beyond those two, Tech has walk-on QB Ben Locklear as the next QB up followed by true freshman walk-on QB Jackson Sigler.
