Many Virginia Tech fans were hoping to see alternate orange uniforms for the Hokies’ Thursday Night ‘Orange Effect’ clash against Boston College. However, there were plenty of doubts of that possibility given the fact that VT just got new primary maroon and white uniforms this offseason.
However, those uniforms aren’t the only new ones for the Hokies, with Tech revealing a new alternate orange uniform that they’ll wear Thursday night against BC, to the delight of Hokie fans.

This comes after Virginia Tech revealed orange cleats in what seemed like the extent of the new uniform pieces for the Hokies this week. However, Tech does indeed have an alternate befitting of the Orange Effect game.
The jerseys are very similar to the orange alternate uniforms that the Hokies wore several years ago, with those uniforms debuting in a 59-7 rout against North Carolina in 2017. However, these uniforms do have some nuanced differences including ‘Virginia Tech’ across the front instead of ‘Hokies’ along with the number backgrounds being similar to Tech’s other new uniforms.
With these orange uniforms making their debut Thursday night, it’ll be interesting to see if we see these worked in again for another game or two this season, whether that happens at Lane Stadium or on the road. Regardless, it seems fair to expect these alternate jerseys to at least be used once a year for Orange Effect games.
