Virginia Tech is a "Focus School" For Four-Star ATH Zakee Wheatley

Zakee Wheatley July 2019

Ever since his recruitment took off early last summer, four-star ATH Zakee Wheatley has emerged as a top target for plenty of Power 5 programs including Virginia Tech.

While Wheatley's offer list has grown a plenty with 22 offers including 17 from Power 5 programs, he also is starting to focus on a select group of schools that have prioritized him the most including the Hokies.

Wheatley told us that Virginia Tech is one of his "focus schools" currently. Wheatley also told us that Virginia Tech is a school that he is considering taking an official visit to with the Hokies likely to push to host him on their big official visit weekend in June that already includes other four-star recruits like Landyn Watson and Latrell Neville.

Zakee Wheatley had this to say about why the Hokies are one of his "primary focus" schools.

"I have a good relationship with (WRs) coach Jafar (Williams). VT is a great academic school and has a very rich football history. Ideally, I want to go to a good school with good football, good academics, close enough for my parents to come games, and with coaches I trust," Wheatley said.

One of the best thing that the Hokies have going for them is the relationship between Wheatley and Jafar Williams, Wheatley's potential college position coach should he choose the Hokies. Wheatley had this to say about his relationship with Williams.

"It's great. He's down to earth and real. We talk, he's visited me, and it's a good relationship," Wheatley said.

The relationship between Wheatley and Williams will prove valuable in the Hokies' push to lock in an official visit, especially with Wheatley's current plans to make his decision in "mid June."

Looking ahead, Wheatley told us that he has unofficial visits scheduled this month to Maryland, Boston College, and Pittsburgh. Wheatley added that those are schools that Wheatley and his father have not been to yet, but are interested in checking out.

Additionally, Wheatley told us that he has three of his five official visits scheduled with trips to Virginia (5/1-3), Penn State (5/29-31), and Wisconsin (6/5-7). That official visit schedule could set up well for the Hokies given that their big summer official visit weekend isn't till June 19th-21st, potentially giving Tech the last spot should they convince Wheatley to take an official visit.

Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for four-star ATH Zakee Wheatley, but the Hokies have plenty of work ahead in an intense recruiting battle full of major ACC and Big 10 teams.
