Virginia Tech Showing Interest in Western Michigan Grad Transfer WR Corey Crooms

VT Corps 2 VT Miami 2022 HT

The transfer portal may not be in full swing but with grad transfers at any level along with all FCS transfers already officially in the portal, things are getting busy for plenty including Western Michigan grad transfer WR Corey Crooms.

He's only been in the portal for a day but is already receiving loads of interest including from Virginia Tech as Crooms shared with us yesterday evening just shortly after entering.

"I’ve heard from Utah, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, and many more are rolling in as of now," Crooms said.

Crooms also added that Pittsburgh, Northwestern, and Cincinnati are a few of the other schools showing interest in him.

Director of Player Personnel Lino Lupinetti was the first to reach out from Virginia Tech to make the Hokies' interest in him clear.

The fact that Crooms is receiving significant Power 5 interest shouldn't surprise anyone as he's had 115 catches for 1,766 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns during his four seasons at WMU. That includes back-to-back 700+ receiving yard seasons including 814 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on 57 catches this past season earning All-MAC Second Team honors.

His performance this past season may be most impressive given that all the focus was on him following the departures of Skyy Moore to the NFL with Crooms putting up those numbers despite no other WMU receivers breaking the 350-yard mark. This production also came on a team that completed less than 50% of their passes collectively and had 13 interceptions.

To put up the production he did as the guy in a struggling passing attack in his second season as a productive starter is an encouraging sign that he can make the jump the Power 5 level and produce at a high level.

Crooms absolutely has the talent to not only come in and make a difference for Virginia Tech's WR corps but also be an ACC quality starting WR given what he's proven at WMU.

So what is Crooms looking for in his next school?

"I’m looking to come in right away and make an impact, a great offense that can fit me into their scheme, and a school that truly wants me to be there," Crooms said.

Keep an eye on Corey Crooms as the Hokies look to the transfer portal to find instant impact WRs.
