Kaelon Black has been one of the 757's offensive stars so far this high school season running for 518 yards in his first three games including 6 touchdowns in his first two games, numbers that most of us would be enthralled with but stats that he has called "decent" and "alright."
With his strong performance, it seems inevitable that Black's recruitment will take off at some point this fall. In the meantime, Virginia Tech has positioned themselves as a top contender.
Black told us that Virginia Tech and East Carolina are currently standing out in his recruitment. Black had this to say on why the Hokies are standing out for him.
"They have shown a lot of love. It feels like they really are interested in me coming to the school. As soon as the 1st of September (first day of coach-initiated contact with 2020 recruits) hit, they were the first school to contact me," Black said. Black also mentioned how the Hokies have sent him lots of recruiting material.
In addition, Virginia Tech is recruiting Black the hardest with the three-star RB hoping to visit Blacksburg when the Hokies face Notre Dame in what is expected to be a marquee matchup in primetime.
Black made his first trip to Blacksburg for the Blacksburg Bash wich went "great." Outside of that visit, Black has built up a strong relationship with RBs coach Zohn Burden. This is what Black had to say about his relationship with Burden.
"It's a good one , he's a coach that checks on me a lot. We are from the same parts so of course, we talk about those types of things also," Kaelon Black said.
Running back has been a position of concern for the Hokies, and Black feels that if he were to choose the Hokies, he would fit in well with the Hokies' offense.
"With the running game, it's similar to the style of offense we run at my school now. I would come in knowing where holes would open up, and being able to hit the hole with power and speed ready to break through. In the passing game, I can catch dump passes over the middle and little screen passes. From the film i watched with coaches, the running back has to be versatile and I feel that I am that versatile player," Black said.
Black said that Cincinnati is the schools he feels is closest to offering him though it would be surprising if he also didn't receive several power 5 offers this fall.
Currently, Virginia Tech has positioned themselves well early in the recruitment of one of their top 2020 running back targets and one of the 757's high school football stars.
