Virginia Tech Star WR Kaleb Smith announced that he will enter the transfer portal.

Smith is the sixth Hokie to enter the transfer portal along with CBs DJ Harvey and Armani Chatman, DEs Mattheus Carroll and. He has one year of eligibility remaining thanks to a free COVID year.

Smith had an impressive 2022 season leading all VT receivers with 37 catches for 674 yards adding 3 touchdowns while averaging 18.2 yards per reception as a big play machine for VT.

To state the obvious, Smith's departure is the most impactful to date for the Hokies. Smith developed into a legitimate WR1 this season and was the one consistent WR for the Hokies on his way to earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors. There's no doubt that he will plenty of Power 5 suitors in the portal though I would expect Tech will try to see if they can find a way to bring him back.

Tech now clearly needs a big time WR to lead this room and though Da'Wain Lofton showed improvement and consistency as the season progressed, Tech needs big time WR talent from the portal. The Hokies have already offered several talented G5 and FCS WRs including ODU star Ali Jennings, and Duquesne WR Abdul Janneh who is ranked a high three-star 89 by 247 Sports and is set to visit VT on the weekend of December 16-18th.

We will have more as this story develops.
