Gallo returns to the Hokies after missing the entire 2023 season due to injury. Prior to 2023, Gallo had been Tech's starting TE in 2021 and 2022, and made a few starts during the 2020 season. He was also coming off a career year in 2022 where he had a career-high 30 catches for 256 yards.
Gallo steadily improved throughout his career as a receiver and fills the hole that Dae'Quan Wright had left when Wright entered the transfer portal. Add in what Benji Gosnell showed this year as a receiver and blocker and Tech has a pretty good lead TE duo. The Hokies also have some TE depth with Harrison Saint Germain being a solid blocker and a promising receiver, and Zeke Wimbush having a good amount of receiving upside.
Gallo also brings plenty of leadership to the table for the Hokies as a captain this past season and a potential captain this upcoming season. Adding Gallo back into what is a good Virginia Tech locker room already will definitely be a plus for the quality culture that the Hokies have built.
With Gallo's return, the Hokies are currently at 90 scholarship players, five over the maximum 85 that they need to be down to by the summer so more transfers out of the VT program can be expected.
