Virginia Tech has extended their recruiting reach more into Texas in recent offers extending lots of offers to Lone Star State recruits including three-star DE Robert Wooten. Wooten had this to say about his offer and the impact it has on his recruitment. "I was really happy! We’ve been talking for a while, I’ve been waiting," Wooten said. "It’s a pretty big ACC offer. I have a Syracuse offer but this ones higher because of the communication and the whole process." That communication has come between Wooten and specifically VT offensive quality control assistant Beau Davidson who is a Texas native. That connection has made Virginia Tech a major player in his recruitment with Wooten telling us that the Hokies are in his current top 3 alongside Texas Tech and SMU. Wooten specifically mentioned the connection with Davidson as a main reason why VT was in his top 3 calling him a "cool guy." Looking ahead, Wooten told us that he is hoping to visit Virginia Tech but doesn't have a set given the logistics of a possible visit. Wooten will be taking a visit to Oklahoma this weekend while he is also planning on visiting Texas Tech, Alabama, and Arizona "soon." There's no doubt that it will be a challenge for Virginia Tech to gain his commitment given the distance, but it's clear that for now, the Hokies are major contenders for Robert Wooten.
