Four-star athlete J.R. Walker has developed into one of the top recruits in the state of North Carolina in the 2019 class. The Elizabeth City, NC native has drawn plenty of attention east of the Mississippi from schools in the ACC, SEC, and Big 10.
Now, Walker has decided to cut his list down to his top 5.
Virginia Tech was among the five schools that made the cut for four-star athlete J.R. Walker along with NC State, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Duke. While Walker has received some offers from major programs outside the Mid-Atlantic region, Walker's top 5 has a very regional flair to it and may show some interest in staying relatively close to home even though that may not be a decisive factor.
The Hokies are pursuing Walker as a defensive back and have made him one of their top recruiting priorities in their DB recruiting. Virginia Tech has been showing a lot of interest in not only Walker, but also his teammate Traveon Freshwater with VT being in contention for both recruits currently.
The Hokies have had plenty of success in North Carolina including in 2018 with the #NC2VT helping the Hokies gain commitments from elite NC guys like Dax Hollifield
, Tre Turner, and Alan Tisdale. Currently, the Hokies have one commit from the Tar Heel State via three-star WR Elijah Bowick
