Since the ACC released their 2017 schedule, Virginia Tech fans have had September 30th circled on their calendars. The Hokies' showdown with Clemson immediately stood out in week 5 as likely the biggest game of that week as long as VT and Clemson took care of business.
Less than two weeks away, both VT and Clemson are 3-0 with easy home games this week. Now, the stage is set for the rematch of the 2016 ACC Championship to get the primetime spotlight it deserves.
Virginia Tech vs. Clemson will be in primetime on ABC at 8pm in what is clearly the game of the week. This news is another great sign that College GameDay will make its return to Blacksburg for the first time since 2007 when the Hokies opened with East Carolina.
This will be the second game Virginia Tech will play in primetime on ABC this year after their Sunday night opener against West Virginia. This game gives the Hokies even more national exposure, and creates an even bigger stage for VT to send a message that they are not only nationally relevant but also a threat again.
This is the big stage fans and players have been hoping for especially with the weak Saturday schedule surrounding this game. However, this game has clearly emerged as the best game left in the month of September between the two teams that are arguably the best in the ACC at the moment.
For fans, this has been what they have hoping for awhile now. This game is now set to be the biggest game in Lane Stadium in years as the Hokies have the chance to launch themselves into serious playoff contention with a win in front of what will be one of the craziest scenes in all of college football this year.
Before then, the Hokies need to take care of business against Old Dominion.
