With the start of the 2026-27 season just 18 days away, Virginia Tech women's basketball has officially received its preseason ACC ranking.

The preseason poll, voted on by all 18 ACC head coaches and members of the Blue Ribbon Panel, projects how each team will finish in the conference standings. The results are as follows:

2026-27 ACC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

  1. Duke (49) — 1,649
  2. Louisville (22) — 1,580
  3. North Carolina (1) — 1,462
  4. Notre Dame (4) — 1,450
  5. N.C. State — 1,337
  6. Virginia — 1,085
  7. Syracuse — 1,009
  8. Virginia Tech — 1,003
  9. Clemson — 988
  10. California — 786
  11. Miami — 689
  12. Georgia Tech — 684
  13. Stanford — 674
  14. Florida State — 603
  15. SMU — 373
  16. Wake Forest — 296
  17. Pitt — 236
  18. Boston College — 170

First-place votes are listed in parentheses, followed by total points.

Virginia Tech enters the season projected to finish eighth in the ACC. While the ranking doesn't place the Hokies among the conference's elite, it does position them in the top half of the 18-team league.

Looking at the point totals, Virginia Tech sits just six points behind seventh-place Syracuse and 15 points ahead of ninth-place Clemson. The narrow margins suggest voters anticipate fierce competition among the three programs, with little separating them heading into the season.

Compared to last season's preseason projection of 10th, expectations appear to be trending upward for Megan Duffy's squad.

That improvement comes after Virginia Tech exceeded expectations last season, finishing sixth in the ACC standings despite being picked 10th in the preseason poll.

The question now is whether the Hokies can outperform expectations for a second consecutive season.

Only time will tell, but Virginia Tech will get its first opportunity to build momentum Nov. 2, when the Hokies open their season at home against North Carolina Central.
