Virginia Tech WR Chance Fitzgerald announced today that he will be entering the transfer portal.

Fitzgerald, a former four-star recruit in the 2023 class, was unable to break into the Hokies' wide receiver rotation and primarily played special teams this past season after redshirting in 2023. He did seem poised to potentially break into the WR rotation next season with Tech's top four WRs all running out of eligibility, but he has decided to head elsewhere.
He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Fitzgerald impressed with his high school tape and seemed like someone who could quickly develop into a star receiver for the Hokies. However, he was not able to live up to that potential in Blacksburg and slipped down the depth chart behind guys his age and younger like Ayden Greene and Keylen Adams.
With Fitzgerald heading to the transfer portal, the path becomes clearer for Greene and Adams to lead the Hokies' WR room in 2025 along with slot receiver Takye Heath, up-and-coming Chanz Wiggins, and veteran Tucker Holloway. Tech still is looking to add another experienced WR though to pair with this talented but fairly inexperienced group.
