Virginia Tech two-sport athlete Micah Matthews will enter the transfer portal following his freshman season.
On the football side, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver didn’t see the field once this year, using his redshirt. Matthews comes from Turner Ashby High School in the Harrisonburg area, where he was a four-star recruit in the 2025 class. He chose Virginia Tech over teams like North Carolina, Virginia, Rutgers, and others. While at Turner Ashby, he set the single-season reception record as a junior with 86 catches for 1,476 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Micah Matthews was not just a high school star in football but also in baseball. He committed to play at Tech as a baseball player as well after garnering all-state honors and being ranked among the top 60 players nationally.
Matthews will have four years of eligibility left as he looks for a new home to play both football and baseball at.
