During his break from folkstyle, Henson competed for a spot on the U23 World Team in May, coming up short against two-time Hodge Award winner Zain Retherford in the 70 kg title bout, 2-1. Despite missing out on a chance to compete for a World title, Henson said he learned plenty that he could apply to his game during his final collegiate season.
"[My] freestyle definitely got a lot better," Henson said. "I'm a lot more freestyle savvy, which when you're trying to make senior World teams, that's a huge part. But I think just my overall belief in myself and my confidence to wrestle everywhere improved, which maybe wasn't as true in the past. I really feel like I can take matches, and wherever we end up, I'm completely confident."
