Kuony Deng Will Take a Virginia Tech Official Visit This Week

Since offering him late this summer, four-star JUCO DE Kuony Deng has been a top target for Virginia Tech. His JUCO schedule for Independence CC in Kansas has made scheduling an official visit difficult, but the Hokies have been able to do so with Deng visiting VT this week surrounding the Hokies' game against Georgia Tech. https://twitter.com/Kd_2Three/status/1054729746913779712?s=19 Deng will be arriving in Blacksburg this evening with the four-star DE likely to head back to Kansas early Friday before Independence's game against Iowa Central CC this Saturday. This will be Deng's third official visit after taking officials to Texas A&M and UCLA according to 247 Sports. Since Deng previously told us that the Hokies and Texas A&M were standing out for him, he has seen his recruitment explode with offers from many power 5 programs including Auburn, LSU, and Texas. However, the fact that he is still travelling from Kansas during the middle of the week to visit the Hokies looks like a great sign that VT is a top contender. The Hokies also benefit from the fact that Deng is a Virginia native who spent a year at VMI before transferring to the JUCO in pursuit of an opportunity to earn a scholarship at a major college football program. During his time with the Keydets, Deng was coaches by now Hokies' assistant Justin Hamilton with Deng previously documenting to us his extremely strong relationship with the Hokies' Director of Player Development for Defense. Deng previously told us he was hoping to make his decision in early October, but has clearly chosen to delay it with the Hokies benefiting from an official visit. After this visit, it remains to be seen when Deng will make his decision and whether he will look to take any more visits. Thursday night games don't usually bring major official visitors to Blacksburg, but the Hokies and Kuony Deng have gotten creative to make sure that VT has the chance to host one of their top 2019 targets.

Deng is ranked as the ninth best JUCO recruit by the 247 Sports Composite, tenth best by Rivals, and 14th best by 247 Sports with Rivals and the 247 Sports Composite rating him as a four-star recruit. Deng is also ranked as the best JUCO OLB recruit by 247 Sports and the 247 Sports Composite though Virginia Tech is pursuing him as a defensive end.
