When the Virginia Tech basketball team takes the court for the season opener next Friday, they’ll be without one of their key contributors from the past couple of seasons. Chris Clarke has been suspended indefinitely, the athletic department announced this afternoon. His suspension will be effective immediately. Clarke has been a key player for the Hokies during his time in Blacksburg. The forward/guard from Virginia Beach led the team in rebounds during the 2017-18 season, averaging 6.3 per game. He also averaged 8.2 points per game and three assists per game. He was second on the team in total assists last season with 98. Clarke has been part of the core group of players that have led the Hokies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Due to their recent success and the group of players that are still around, Virginia Tech has received much praise ahead of the 2018-19 season. Clarke’s departure is sure to have an impact on the Hokies. He joins a long list of players to leave the program this offseason, including Khadim Sy and Tyrie Jackson. Virginia Tech opens the 2018 season at home against Gardner Webb on Friday, Nov. 9.
