It's been an offseason of transition for Virginia Tech Women's Basketball with three-time ACC Player of the Year Liz Kitley moving on to the WNBA after exhausting her eligibility, Kenny Brooks leaving to become the head coach at Kentucky, All-American PG Georgia Amoore and young C Clara Strack both transferring to Kentucky, and Cayla King & Olivia Summiel wrapping up their collegiate careers.
Following all that, the Hokies hired Marquette head coach Megan Duffy to replace Brooks and lead the program into a new era looking to build on Brooks' winning foundation. Since then, Duffy has been busy building her 2024-25 roster primarily with a lot of retained talent plus a rebuilt recruiting class.
The Hokies have a couple veterans in Matilda Ekh and Rose Micheaux but outside of those two and Utah transfer Lani White, the Hokies' eight other players are all freshmen and sophomores. Tech's projected lineup also has three sophomore as a transition offseason will likely continue into a transition season where making the NCAA Tournament and avoiding the bubble would be two realistic and fair goals for this team.
So with that said, let's dive into my way-too-early starting lineup projection.
PG: Samyha Suffren
SG: Carleigh Wenzel
In the backcourt, Carleigh Wenzel is set to take on a lead scoring role while the battle at point guard seems wide open between the Hokies' two returning point guards.
Let's start with Wenzel who is the only remaining player from the Hokies' 2023 Final Four roster, having redshirted during that season.
