2025 LS Hunter Solwold Recaps "Great" Virginia Tech Visit

Hunter Solwold 1 VT Visit Feb 2024

Among those recently on campus for Virginia Tech was 2025 long snapper Hunter Solwold, a preferred walk-on priority target for Tech's special teams. Solwold has been on campus before, but was once again impressed by VT on his latest visit to Blacksburg.

"It was great! I saw Coach (Stu) Holt and Coach (Brandon) McCombs and we spoke for a while about everything with VT and outside of football. I then got to see Coach (Brent) Pry in the weight room and catch up with him, he’s such a great coach and person. The staff really made VT feel like home and made me want to come back ASAP!" Solwold said.

He shared this on what he did during his visit to Blacksburg.

"First, I met up with Coach Holt and McCombs outside the facilities and spoke for a while. I also brought my friend from my HS team Aiden Smith (2025 C/G) who Coach (Ron) Crook is interested in and introduced him to Coach Holt. We went inside and saw the rest of the staff and Coach Pry, and it was great catching up with him. The staff introduced themselves in a meeting with all the recruits and their families and really showed all of us how special Virginia Tech football really is," Solwold said.

"Then we went to the weight room and were shown how the players eat, recover and train every day. Then we split up by positions and did our awesome photoshoots and positional meetings where we broke down film from the season for about 30 minutes. Coach Holt unfortunately had to leave early because he was getting inducted to his HS Hall of Fame, so I broke down film with Coach McCombs. It was great, then we went in the lounge with the arcade machines and ate. Lastly, we went on busses and toured campus and watched a hype video on the big screen in Lane Stadium and said our goodbyes. I can’t wait to be back!"

As Solwold mentioned, he got to spend time with special teams coordinator Stu Holt and special teams analyst Brandon McCombs. He had this to say about his time and conversations with Stu Holt.

"It was great. He’s an amazing coach with lots of experience and tons of respect throughout the football community and I’m so blessed and honored to have had a coach like him offer me in June and continue to actively recruit me," Solwold said.

He had this to say about his time and conversations with Brandon McCombs.

"Amazing, he’s a great man and someone I can really trust and count on as a coach. He was previously a coach at Clemson and he said he remembers me from when they invited me down for a visit. Coach Brandon is absolutely someone I would love to have as my coach each day," Solwold said.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and where the Hokies stand in it?

"It really showed me how special VT is, and emphasized their saying “This is Home”. The coaching staff is amazing with tons of experience and are really great at recruiting. VT is definitely on the rise and I can’t wait to see how this next season goes," Solwold said.

Virginia Tech impressed Hunter Solwold as they look to have him be their long snapper of the future.
