Virginia Tech Wrestling has made some noise on the transfer portal front today landing a commitment from Chattanooga’s Sergio Desiante, the 2025 SoCon champion at 174 pounds.
Desiante is the second addition for the Hokies this transfer portal cycle along with Maryland’s multi-time NCAA qualifier Ethen Miller. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
Desiante had a breakout season for the Mocs as a redshirt sophomore as he won the SoCon and Southern Scuffle titles while going 2-2 at NCAAs and 23-4 overall. He also picked up some impressive wins along the way including victories over Virginia Tech’s Lennox Wolak and Oklahoma’s Gaven Sax.
Desiante is an instant-impact starter for the Hokies at what is a loaded 174 pound weight class in the ACC. He also has two years of eligibility remaining and could definitely develop into an All-American contender by the time his collegiate career is done.
The Hokies were trending for Desiante prior to his visit over the weekend, but were able to seal things up during it. One thing that may have helped is the fact that Desiante is a Tampa native who was high school teammates with current Hokie wrestler and projected 141-pound starter Tom Crook.
