Earlier this year, Virginia Tech wrestling head coach Tony Robie signed a three-year contract extension through July 1, 2031, according to The Roanoke Times' Mark Berman. The extension is Robie's fourth since being named head coach in 2017.
During Robie's tenure, Virginia Tech wrestling has ascended to national prominence. The Hokies are 91-27 overall, and notched top-10 finishes at NCAAs in five of his nine seasons at the helm. He's overseen the development of the program's two national champions, Mekhi Lewis in 2019 and Caleb Henson in 2024, and led 33 wrestlers to All-American honors. Robie has also established the Hokies' dominance in conference play, winning ACC titles in 2017, 2018, 2025, and 2026.
Off the mat, Robie has transformed Virginia Tech into a recruiting power, signing five top-5 classes in the last eight years. Last fall, Robie landed the top overall recruit in the class of 2026 in Bo Bassett, along with Bassett's brother, Melvin Miller, who headlines the class of 2027.
"Moving to Virginia was one of the best decisions that I ever made for my career and also for my personal life and my family," Robie said in a statement posted earlier this week on Virginia Tech wrestling's Instagram. "We couldn't be happier here. It's been a great place to raise three kids...we're certainly Hokies."
