BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech defensive lineman Emmett Laws and cornerback Thomas Williams are both questionable for Friday night’s game at SMU, according to the ACC availability report released Wednesday night.
After missing the entire season to this point, Laws is listed as questionable. Fellow defensive lineman Randy Adirika, who went down during Virginia Tech’s win at Clemson, is also questionable. If both are sidelined, the Hokies will have to lean more heavily on the rest of their defensive line rotation. Williams is the only Virginia Tech defensive back on the report.
The Hokies got better news on the offensive line. Montavious Cunningham was left off Wednesday’s report after dealing with injuries and are expected to be active in Dallas. His availability is a great boost to an offensive line that has struggled a lot this season, with Cunningham being likely to start in his return.
Starting LT Justin Terry remains out for the Hokies. Other offensive linemen on the injury report include Nathaniel Wright and Lucas Austin who are out, and Marlen Bright who is questionable.
Wide receivers Shamarius “Snook” Peterkin and Luke Stuewe round out Virginia Tech’s questionable list. Linebacker George Ballance is out.
Virginia Tech and SMU kick off Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
Thursday Night Update
DT Emmett Laws remains questionable while DT Randy Adirika, CB Thomas Williams, WR Shamarius Peterkin, WR Luke Stuewe, and OL Marlen Bright are all out. Laws hasn't played yet this season but has a chance to make his debut Friday night and would almost certainly jump into the DT rotation immediately, especially with Adirika being out.
Williams' absence should mean that redshirt sophomore Joshua Clarke will start again this week with Cam Chadwick also playing regularly opposite Jaquez White.
