With the women's basketball season officially complete, the transfer portal is set to officially open on Monday. This comes after Virginia Tech returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Megan Duffy's tenure, with her second team at VT losing in the first round of March Madness to 8 seed Oregon to end its season.
This season was a solid step in the right direction for a VT team that was largely built around a retained core with some nice pieces added in around them including Texas Tech C/F transfer Kilah Freelon most notably.
However, the Hokies won't have that same level of retention this year as Freelon and Mel Daley have both finished their collegiate careers while All-ACC Second Team F Carys Baker and starting PG Mackenzie Nelson headline four transfer portal declarations for VT so far this offseason.
Tech has already gotten busy in the early transfer portal, landing a commitment from a grad transfer in Tennessee starting F/C Alyssa Latham who VT likely hopes can have an impact similar to Kilah Freelon last season. All-ACC Second Team G Carleigh Wenzel, F/C Aniya Trent, F/C Amani Jenkins, and G Kate Sears have also all announced that they will be returning to Virginia Tech next season.
So as we dive into this preview of the Hokies' upcoming portal activity, let's take a look at where things currently stand for the Hokies and then what will likely be their top priorities.
