Last year, Justin Fuente decided to honor Frank Beamer by awarding Beamer's #25 jersey to the special teams player of the week. The #25 jersey quickly became a cherished tradition for both fans and players, and is returning this fall. Today, Justin Fuente announced the first recipient of the #25 jersey. https://twitter.com/CoachFuente/status/903691819590045697 Senior linebacker Anthony Shegog will wear the #25 jersey against West Virginia. Shegog will be the first Hokie to wear the #25 jersey twice as Shegog wore #25 against Miami last season. Of note, the Hokies have worn all-maroon jerseys both times Shegog has worn the #25 jersey. Anthony Shegog ended last season with an impressive Belk Bowl performance in which he had 6 tackles, a sack, an interception, and a forced fumble. Shegog's great game led to him being named to the 2016 AP All-Bowl Team and received our Defensive Hokie of the Game honor. Shegog is the Hokies' top backup linebacker who will likely be used in some sub-packages as he was last year. Shegog will also provide lots of experience on special teams this year and is likely to be used on most of the Hokies' special teams units. Congrats to Anthony Shegog on being chosen to wear the #25 jersey against West Virginia.
