Virginia Tech baseball added another arm to its pitching staff this week, landing Dallas Baptist left-hander Aiden VanDeHatert out of the transfer portal. VanDeHatert announced the move on his X account Tuesday, confirming he has two years of remaining eligibility.
A 6-foot-3, 210-pound lefty, VanDeHatert began his college career at Lincoln Trail College before transferring to Dallas Baptist ahead of the 2026 season.
He worked both as a starter and out of the bullpen for the Patriots, making 17 appearances, including four starts, and going 2-3 with a 6.10 ERA and a save. Across 31 innings, he struck out 35 batters and walked 12 while allowing 39 hits and 21 earned runs.
According to a post on his X account, VanDeHatert's pitch mix includes a sinker that sits 91-94 mph and tops out at 95, a changeup at 86-88, and a slider at 81-84.
The addition gives Virginia Tech another left-handed arm as it works to rebuild its pitching staff following the departures of Chase Swift, Ben Weber, Madden Clement, and Preston Crowl this offseason. VanDeHatert joins pitchers Mike Staiano, Chris Torres, and Nate Bennett, along with first baseman Evan Hankins, as the program's latest portal commitments under head coach John Szefc.
