Virginia Tech has already been busy in the transfer portal sending out offers including one to Eastern Washington WR Freddie Roberson.

He had this to say about his reaction to receiving a VT offer.

"I was excited to hear that they offered and loved what they have seen on film from watching me play. It's definitely is a surreal feeling knowing a team of this caliber and the level they play at wants me to be apart of their program," Roberson said.

Roberson received the offer during a conversation with WRs coach Fontel Mines. He had this to say about how his conversation with Mines went.

"I was informed through Coach Fontel (Mines), great dude, over the phone. The conversation was great. We talked a lot about ball and what plans were during this whole process with the transfer portal going on right now," Roberson said.

The Hokies joined Arizona State, Washington State, Mississippi State, Tulane, South Alabama, and Hawaii on Roberson's offer list so far. He is also receiving interest from Utah, California, Fresno State, Memphis, Eastern Michigan, and Montana State.

That volume of interest including from several Power 5 schools shouldn't come as a surprise as he has earned all-conference honors for three-straight years in arguably the best FCS conference in America, the Big Sky.

Over the course of the past four seasons, Roberson had 141 catches for 2,266 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 16.1 yards per reception. He has averaged at least 4 catches per game each of the past three seasons while he also averaged a career high 17.7 yards per reception this past season. He's also averaged at least 65 yards per game for three-straight seasons.

Looking ahead, Roberson told us that he has three visits scheduled including one to Blacksburg.

"I will be going to Fresno State on the 10th, Arizona State on the 17th, and Virginia Tech first week of January," Roberson said.

He added that he plans to make a decision "sometime in January" and though that is subject to change, that could mean VT gets his last visit.

So what is Roberson looking for in his next school?

"I’m just looking for a school that’s going to utilize my abilities to the fullest and where I can maximize my opportunities of getting to the next level and developing as a player and person," Roberson said.

Now Roberson is from Seattle which is about as far away from Blacksburg as you can get in the continental US but he told us that being close to home would only be a "small factor" and not a major one or a deal breaker necessarily.

Keep an eye on Freddie Roberson as the Hokies look to the transfer portal for a quick infusion of talent to their WR room that's looking for playmakers.
