Fast-Rising OT Kamen Smith Recaps Virginia Tech Visit, New Hokies Offer

Kamen Smith VT Visit May 17th 2022

Three-star offensive tackle Kamen Smith is one of the fastest rising recruits in the Mid-Atlantic with Virginia Tech becoming the latest offer for the Wilkesboro, NC native during his Tuesday visit to Blacksburg.

Smith told us that it was a "great feeling" to receive the offer during his visit to Blacksburg this past Tuesday. This comes as Smith has seen his recruitment take off receiving additional offers from NC State, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Charlotte, and Furman since the start of April.

Overall, Smith's visit went quite well especially given the time he got to spend with head coach Brent Pry and OL coach Joe Rudolph as he told us.

"Well it’s always great to see new places for the first time. But just getting to talk with coach Pry, and getting to sit down and spend time with coach Rudolph was pretty awesome," Smith said.

He shared the full scope of what he did on his visit beyond the time spent with Brent Pry and Joe Rudolph.

"I got to see around the facilities and the weight room, and I got to meet a lot of the coaches and the chaplain," Smith said.

Of course, those conversations with Brent Pry and Joe Rudolph stuck out the most with Smith telling us that his time with Pry was "great." He also added this on how his time and conversations went with Rudolph.

"It was great to talk football with him. I could easily tell how much of a genius he is," Smith said.

The offer to Smith makes clear the fact that the Hokies know they need to take a large amount of offensive linemen this cycle after a spring where the offensive line depth chart was thin in terms of scholarship talent. That's especially true on the offensive tackle side of things as Tech seems to intent to try to finish with 3-4 tackles including a couple who could easily slide inside if they don't work out at tackle.

Virginia Tech is the latest program to jump into the battle for fast-rising OT Kamen Smith in a regional showdown among the Mid-Atlantic ACC programs.
