Virginia Tech kicked off their final week of spring football by hosting one of their top safety targets, four-star Kelvin Hunter out of Florence, SC.

He told us that he had a "great" visit to Virginia Tech on Monday and had this to say about why that's the case.

"I got to fully experience what it was like to be there for a day and see the facility and campus," Hunter said.while?

His visit was quite busy as he told us that he got a full campus tour along with getting to see all of Virginia Tech's football facilities. He also got to spend some time with safeties coach Pierson Prioleau and had this to say about his time and conversations with the former Super Bowl champion.

"It was good. I basically spent the whole day with him and we were just talking about how my recruitment is going, him asking me how my family has been, and talking spring ball," Hunter said.

Virginia Tech also has a unique connection here for an out-of-state recruit as current DB Nyke Johnson went to the same high school (West Florence) that Hunter currently attends. He got to spend some time with Johnson during his visit and had this to say about it.

"We were just catching on up on how my recruitment is going and him asking what I thought about being in Blacksburg," Hunter said.

It was also cool for Hunter to get to see someone out of the same high school as him having lots of success and being someone he can look up to in some ways.

"It’s great to see especially for us being from a small town and seeing both of us us make it out and doing great in life, and also playing the same position as him. It’s just great to see and a great example for me to look up too," Hunter said.

Looking ahead, Hunter told us that he is looking at taking official visits to all of his top 5 schools including Virginia Tech plus South Carolina, Michigan, Auburn, and App State.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and where VT stands in it?

"it impacted my recruitment a lot. They moved up a lot," Hunter said.

Hunter also said that the Hokies are near the top of his recruitment though in-state South Carolina is right up there as well with Michigan, Auburn, and App State chasing the Gamecocks and Hokies.

Virginia Tech made a big move in the recruitment of one of their top safety targets in four-star DB Kelvin Hunter with the next goal being to get an official visit locked in.
