Four-Star TE Pierce Petersohn Flips From Penn State to Virginia Tech

VT Fans 1

James Franklin and Virginia Tech pulled off a trifecta of commits on Thanksgiving day, with the third commit coming from four-star TE Pierce Petersohn out of Minnesota.

Petersohn is the 12th overall commit for the Hokies and the fourth former Penn State commit to choose the Hokies, joining four-star RB Messiah Mickens, three-star OT Roseby Lubintus, and three-star OT Marlen Bright. Petersohn was actively committed to Penn State prior to flipping to the Hokies, with his decision coming less than a week after he visited Blacksburg.

Petersohn is the first four-star TE that the Hokies have landed since signing Benji Gosnell and Dae’Quan Wright in the 2022 class.

Given the limited depth in the TE room, Petersohn has the potential to immediately come in and push for playing time behind Gosnell. Petersohn is a talented athlete but one thing that could slow down his ability to make an early impact is the fact that he’ll be moving from quarterback to tight end at the collegiate level.

Regardless, this is still a tremendous addition for James Franklin and his recruiting staff, who have actively raided the class they built at Penn State with great effectiveness. With the Hokies trending for several other former or current Penn State commits and a host of other talented players, what was looking like a nightmare recruiting cycle could end up being the most talented that the Hokies have signed in years.
