The Hokies were joined by Florida State, Penn State, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Duke, and East Carolina in Adams' top 12. Several other offers missed the cut for Adams including Michigan, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia, and more.
Adams had this to say about why the Hokies made his top 12.
"They give a family vibe everytime I talk to them. They are always honest in everything they say to me and my parents. They have a nice program that's in the process of rebuilding and they are just missing a few pieces," Adams said.
Adams is one of the best in Virginia with all four major recruiting services having him ranked in the top 3 in Virginia in their internal rankings. That won't be changing anytime soon either after Adams was a big play machine at Green Run HS with 55 catches for 1,064 yards and 16 touchdowns averaging an impressive 19.3 yards per reception this past season. He added this his "catching, route-running, and blocking" are his strengths in his view while his ability to read defenses is his biggest weakness currently.
Given his talent and production, it's likely encouraging for Hokies fans to see Tech not only in the top 12 but clearly making a big impact on Adams. Tech is also pursuing Adams like the big time target he is with head coach Brent Pry taking on a lead role in Adams' recruitment in addition to WRs coach Fontel Mines, one of the ACC's top recruiter this past cycle per 247 Sports.
Adams had this to say about his relationship with Brent Pry.
"It's a good relationship. he is very upfront and honest about what he is trying to do for the program and what he needs in order to get it done," Adams said.
He added that he would say his relationship with WRs coach Fontel Mines is "pretty much the same thing" adding that it is a "little bit more" given that Mines would be his position coach if he chose Tech.
Looking ahead, Adams told us that he is hoping to visit his whole top 12 with the four-star WR from Virginia Beach currently having a visit scheduled to Penn State for January 14th. He added that he is also "trying to make a decision by the start of next season" so there is plenty of time to go in his recruitment. That does point towards a timeline that would likely include June official visits.
Virginia Tech is off to a good start in their pursuit of one of their top overall 2024 targets, four-star WR Keylen Adams from Virginia Tech. However, the Hokies have plenty of work ahead though Pry's involvement makes it clear that they are going all in to try to bring one of Virginia's top high school talents to the Commonwealth's flagship football program in Blacksburg.
