Over the past two years, Jovonn Quillen has struggled to find any time at cornerback with his limited experience coming in garbage time. However, the sophomore out of the 757 has been a valuable member of multiple special teams units for Virginia Tech.
Last week, Quillen had his best week of special teams in his short time in Blacksburg. Because of that performance, Quillen will get to wear the jersey that every Hokie wants to wear at least once in his career.
Jovonn Quillen will wear the #25 jersey in the primetime Commonwealth Cup showdown
against Virginia. This is the first time that Quillen will have worn the #25 jersey in his two seasons at Virginia Tech.
Quillen made a few plays on special teams last week with three tackles along with partially blocking a Pitt punt. He also filled in as the Hokies' kick returner and had a 25-yard return in this game. Quillen may not be playing on the Hokies' first-string defense, but his great work ethic has helped him earn playing time on special teams.
Awarding the #25 jersey was designed to be given to a player who had earned it on special teams and that is exactly what Quillen has done with last week's big game making this week the perfect opportunity to give him the jersey.
Congrats to Jovonn Quillen on being chosen to wear the #25 jersey against Virginia.
