With the MLB Draft taking place on Sunday and Monday, Hokies fans across the country were watching to see if their team's players would be selected. Among the names of concern was Aiden Robertson, a JUCO pitcher who previously committed to the Hokies but was drafted in the 13th round by the Texas Rangers on Monday.
Fortunately for the Hokies, Robertson announced on social media that he will forgo signing with the Texas Rangers' organization and instead play for Virginia Tech next spring.

Robertson had this to say about Virginia Tech after making his decision to play for VT over joining the Rangers' organization.
"I've always felt welcomed with open arms by this place," he said. "I can't wait to see what the community is all about."
The 6'1 righty spent two years at Walters State Community College in Tennessee, where he was magnificent. He had a 3.99 ERA over his two seasons and led JUCO in strikeouts during the 2025 season.
The biggest statistical highlight of his is the stellar K-BB rate numbers. For comparison, anything over .225 is absolutely stellar. Aiden Roberston's rate over his two years was .244. While this is in JUCO, those numbers tend to point towards the ability to succeed at higher levels.
Robertson features a solid mix, featuring a fastball that works in the mid-upper 90's that pairs well with a changeup that works in the mid 80's. Robertson also likes to work in a slider and a cutter that work at 80-82 and 86-89 respectively.
I fully expect Robertson to take over a spot in the starting rotation. His talent and pitch ability will fit very well into the weekend rotation. He threw 89 2/3 innings last year, which would've led the Hokies by over 15 innings. He's also experience, as he pitched for Walters State last year, who was in the JUCO World Series.
Landing Robertson is a huge win for Virginia Tech, as it will add an extra level of depth to the pitching staff along with allowing the Hokies to not have to worry about needing to pursue another starting pitcher late in the transfer portal cycle.
