"Our family is partnering with Jenny and Coach Fuente to thank the healthcare heroes at Carilion Clinic for everything they're doing for us during these challenging times," Mike Young said in the video.
Justin Fuente added that the donation is a token of gratitude from the Virginia Tech family.
"You're providing healthcare for Hokies, and now it's our turn as Hokies to show support for our healthcare team," Fuente said.
According to Carilion Clinic, the donation will be used to provide meals for healthcare workers at their New River Valley and Giles Community hospitals. The meals will be purchased from local restaurants in the Blacksburg and NRV communities, supporting those businesses as they operate in these difficult times.
As of the morning of April 23rd, there have been 54 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Montgomery and Giles Counties according to the Virginia Department of Health. That has included six hospitalization from the virus.
Both families encourage anyone who is able to consider donating to the fund as well. Those who are interested in giving should visit carilionfoundation.org/give.
