Virginia Tech landed their seventh transfer of the 2026 transfer portal cycle as Stetson G Ethan Copeland committed to the Hokies.
The 6’2’’ Copeland arrives at Virginia Tech after just one season at Stetson during which he averaged 15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 32.1 minutes per game while shooting 44.1% from the field including 42.9% from three-point range on 7.7 three-point attempts per game plus 79.4% from the free-throw line.
Copeland was previously in the JUCO ranks and has one year of eligibility remaining currently but it’s unclear whether he’d gain a second if the five for five eligibility rule goes through. The Hokies now have 13 players for next season though if Shamarius Peterkin ends up fully focusing on football, that number drops to 12. VT has at least two spots remaining.
Per source, Gonzaga and BYU were two other schools that were involved in his transfer recruitment.
Copeland is a quality depth addition who can certainly earn a rotation role and be a third ball-handling option after Ben Hammond and Oklahoma State transfer Jaylen Curry. He is clearly a great volume three-point shooter who can certainly be an offensive spark plug off the bench and should fit well in Mike Young’s system on that end of the floor.
There is also a connection to VT that may have helped the Hokies do some scouting and evaluating as former VT assistant Christian Webster was at Stetson this past season before taking an assistant job at Loyola-Chicago this offseason.
