Kyron Drones Acclimates Well In First Career Start for Virginia Tech

After a week of speculation, Kyron Drones made his first career start against Rutgers with Grant Wells out due to injury. There was plenty of fan intrigue and expectation building over the offseason and early weeks of the season given the hype around Drones from his offseason arrival along with the struggles of Wells.

The circumstances made some of that expectation unfair given that the Hokies were without their two best WRs in Ali Jennings and Jaylin Lane, and have one of the worst offensive lines in the Power 5 plus a running game that was non-existent through 2 games.

Despite the challenges and the unfair high expectations by some, Drones stepped up to the task and acclimated himself well to being the Hokies' starting quarterback for his first career start.

Drones went 19-32 for 190 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception while adding 79 rushing yards on 18 non-sack carries plus a botched handoff that became a turnover in the 35-16 loss to Rutgers. It wasn't a perfect or spectacular day for Drones but he rightly felt that it was a good first start even as Rutgers defense played well and Tech had their own mistakes.

I hope Drones sees that right now he's got a great shot at it, if he brings his A game. From what little I've seen he's got a lot more "it" factor than Wells. He's a baller, I want to see what he can do fully-polished and sharpened.

If Pry doesn't lean in hard for Drones' success I'll begin to have doubts. Seems like he's hedging a little right now.
