This past Saturday, Virginia Tech took its talents to Chestnut Hill, and gave Boston College a 48-22 beatdown. The win was the Hokies fifth overall of 2023, fourth in ACC play, and first on the road.
While many players had an impact on the game, no stars shined brighter than those of Tech quarterback Kyron Drones and cornerback Dorian Strong. On Monday, their efforts were recognized with Drones being named ACC Quarterback of the Qeek, and Strong awarded Defensive Back of the Week.

Drones: 12-of-17, 219 yards, 2 TDs; 20 rush, 135 yards
Strong: two interceptions https://t.co/meWli83GVG
The tandem defined playmaking on Saturday, with Strong intercepting Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos on the opening play from scrimmage - one of two interceptions he would nab in the game. Strong also earned a spot on the Pro Football Focus College Football Team of the Week.
For Drones, it was another stellar week, and his second time being named the ACC Quarterback of the Week in his first season as a Hokie. The Baylor transfer contributed to a 600 total yard performance with 219 yards and two touchdown passes through the air, completing 12 of his 17 passing attempts. On the ground, the redshirt sophomore could not be stopped, taking on 20 carries for 135 yards.
It was a dominant performance from a Tech squad that is just one win away from bowl eligibility for the first time since 2021.
The Hokies seem to have found their quarterback - but can he guide them to at least one more win with NC State at home this weekend, and a rivalry match against UVA in Charlottesville to close the regular season? Tech fans will be hoping Drones, Strong, and the Hokies can do just that.
