With double-digit Power 5 offers, Monkell Goodwine has emerged as not only one of the best 2021 defensive linemen in the region, but also as one of the Mid-Atlantic most intriguing 2021 prospects.
Before the end of 2018, Goodwine received an offer from Virginia Tech and now, Goodwine has his sights set on making a trip to Blacksburg his foremost travel priority.
Goodwine told us that while he doesn't currently have any visits scheduled, he said that he is "hoping that Virginia Tech will be my first visit because it's close to me."
However, it may be a little longer before Goodwine takes any visit this spring given his current focus off the field.
"Right now, I'm focused on working out and getting stronger so I have no schedule or plans on going on a visit," Goodwine said.
When Goodwine does visit Virginia Tech, it will be his first trip to Blacksburg after he made visits to Clemson, Maryland, NC State, and East Carolina this past fall.
Additionally, Goodwine has an idea of what he's hoping to get a look at while on his visit to VT.
"I want to see the campus, to see if i really feel like I'm home and, how the organization is looking," Goodwine said. He added that his focus when he says the "organization" is in part on facilities like the weight room.
Looking ahead, it's clear that the Hokies are heavily interested in him with Goodwine telling us that Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh are recruiting him the hardest.
Virginia Tech should benefit from the fact that Goodwine plays for private National Christian Academy in Maryland, making it easier for Goodwine to visit Blacksburg. However, Goodwine is a Philadelphia native and told us that he does have some interest in his "dream school" Temple in part because of his time spent growing up in Philly.
For now, Virginia Tech and Monkell Goodwine are both working towards getting a visit set u pas Goodwine makes a trip to Blacksburg a priority this spring.
