Virginia Tech made a major splash in the transfer portal today as they landed a commitment from North Dakota State starting DT Kody Huisman.
Huisman committed to the Hokies after visiting Blacksburg yesterday and is the first spring transfer portal addition for VT.
He comes to Virginia Tech after having an impressive 2024 season during which he had 37 tackles including 7.5 for loss plus a forced fumble and two blocked kicks. He also earned an 80.7 grade from PFF including a 86.6 run defense grade and was a strong interior pass rusher with 29 pressures on the season.
Huisman has one year of eligibility remaining and will immediately compete with Kemari Copeland, Arias Nash, and Emmett Laws for the second starting DT job alongside Kelvin Gilliam. It would be very surprising if Huisman did not at least earn a significant role in the Hokies’ DT rotation, if not the second starting job. He has good size at 6’4’’ and 283 pounds and seems to fit the mold of the smaller, quicker, twitchier DTs that have thrived under J.C. Price’s tutelage.
