After beating Wake Forest over the weekend, Virginia Tech kept the strong stretch going on the recruiting by gaining a commitment from 2021 three-star ATH Nykelius Johnson.
I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be continuing my education and my football career at Virginia Tech💯. Thank you to @CoachFuente, @CoachShibestVT, and @CoachJJWFHS. Johnson is the Hokies' second 2021 commitment alongside three-star DB Jalen Hoyle. Virginia Tech may be the only offer for Johnson, but his recruitment seems poised to take off as the nation's 51st best athlete and 7th best South Carolina recruit according to 247 Sports.
Johnson had this to say on why he chose Virginia Tech.
"It is a great program with a great coaching staff and every time I go up it feels like home! My family and I love the way the coaches treat us like family! Great place," Johnson said.
Johnson also told us that he felt now was the time to commit to VT because he felt there would be no place better than Virginia Tech.
"I wanted to do it now because I love the place and I don’t think I will get a much better place with great people like VT! Ever since I stepped foot on the campus, all the coaches have shown me love," Johnson said.
Johnson received an offer from the Hokies this summer and followed that with what Johnson called a "great" visit in late July. According to Johnson, the Hokies have been recruiting him to play cornerback though he has the athletic versatility to also play running back or slot receiver should things change.
