Virginia Tech defensive tackle Ricky Walker will be honored with Frank Beamer's No. 25 jersey this weekend against Virginia. The senior leader of the defense will become the first player in Virginia Tech history to receive the honor three times in his career.
"One of the hardest workers to come through the Virginia Tech program. And he's earned the 25 on senior day," head coach Justin Fuente said.
Walker was the first player to wear the jersey this season, donning the 25 in the season-opening win against Florida State. He made two tackles in that game including one tackle for loss. He also received the honor in 2017 against Duke. With this honor, Walker has become only the second Hokie to wear #25 three times along with former Virginia Tech CB and punt returner Greg Stroman who had this to say on Twitter.
Including Walker, six of the recipients of the No. 25 jersey this season have been members of the defense. Walker has had a solid year for the Hokies, racking up 36 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. A leader in the locker room, he is among the team leaders in defensive statistics this season.
Win or lose, the Hokies are already on the road to sending Ricky Walker out the right way on his senior day. He's been a part of four teams that have beaten UVA, and a fifth-straight win over the in-state rival Cavaliers would be the best case scenario for the final chapter in Walker's collegiate career.
