Three-star ATH Luke Stuewe out of Avon Lake, OH is following his father's footsteps as he has committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Stuewe chose the Hokies over fellow finalist Miami (OH) and just a couple weeks after he visited Blacksburg for an unofficial visit at the end of July. While some recruiting websites do list Stuewe as a wide receiver rather than an athlete, Virginia Tech is recruiting him as an athlete who could play either wide receiver or defensive back.

His father is former Virginia Tech WR Michael Stuewe who had 53 receptions for 689 yards and five touchdowns during the 1995-97 seasons. Michael Stuewe was indeed teammates with current VT DL coach J.C. Price and current VT safeties coach Pierson Prioleau while current head coach Brent Pry was a grad assistant during that period.

Given the fact that the Hokies already have four WR commits including three four-star WRs, it wouldn't be surprising to see Stuewe start out on the defensive side as a safety. His 6'2'', 195-pound frame could allow him to grow into a linebacker though it's too early to tell if that is a real possibility or not.

Stuewe had a good amount of Group of 5 interest, but the Hokies were the only Power 4 offer for him. Tech is clearly higher on him than their other P4 rivals, with the new 105 roster maximum giving the Hokies a little more room that may have proved valuable for Tech being able to take him.

Stuewe's commitment does not affect Tech's pursuit of four-star Vanderbilt safety commit Carson Lawrence, with the Hokies hosting Lawrence for the home opener against Marshall after he visits Vandy when the Hokies are in town to face the Commodores on Labor Day weekend. Tech will also certainly continue to try to flip some other talented DBs committed elsewhere including four-star Maryland commit Messiah Delhomme and four-star South Carolina commit Kendall Daniels Jr.
