The Virginia Tech Hokies are set to take a large group of defensive backs in the 2018 class and while VT already has 4 true DBs and two athletes that are likely to be DBs committed, the Hokies are still looking to add more defensive backs. Today, Virginia Tech added another defensive back. According to Evan Watkins of VT Scoop, three-star CB Jermaine Waller has committed to Virginia Tech today. The Hokies made his top 7 with Waller telling us that them, Maryland, and NC State were at the top before making a decision that he told us he was planning to make by the end of the month. Waller received an offer at the Hokies' Washington D.C. satellite camp and visited this past weekend for the "Blacksburg Bash". Waller is the fifth true defensive back commit of this class and third cornerback along with DJ Crossen and Braxton Clark while Nadir Thompson is projected to play cornerback and Armani Chatman could end up at WR or CB. Waller chose Virginia Tech over a solid offer list that included Maryland, NC State, Virginia, Rutgers, Temple, and more. Waller is ranked as the 59th best cornerback by Rivals, 79th best by the 247 Sports Composite, and 84th best by 247 Sports while also being ranked among the top 20 Maryland recruits by all 3 rankings.
