Three-Star DB Antonio Cotman Jr Commits to Virginia Tech

Entrance 1

Make it 7 commits in 8 days for Virginia Tech as the Hokies remain red hot on the recruiting trail landing a commitment from talented three-star DB Antonio Cotman Jr.

Cotman decommitted from Boston College earlier this week with Rivals reporting that he was taking an official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend. He is the 12th in-state HS commitment this cycle and 7th from the Richmond area joining CB Cameron Fleming, S Braylon Johnson, DE Jason Abbey, ATH Krystian Williams, WR Takye Heath, and RB Jeremiah Coney.

Cotman chose the Hokies over an impressive list of other offers that also included BC, Penn State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, Maryland, Purdue, Arizona State, West Virginia, Virginia, Duke, Indiana, and more.

This has been one of the more impressive recruiting runs for the Hokies in recent memory with Tech landing 5 high school recruits and 2 transfers in a span of eight days. Additionally, these haven't been back-end fillers but some big time prospects with Cotman, Chance Fitzgerald, and Ayden Greene all being consensus top 5-7 recruits by the ratings in this class.

Tech has also put together maybe their best collection of Richmond recruits in one class at least in terms of numbers with 7 Richmond area recruits committed, the most in recent memory if ever. These 7 are all in the top 13 of Richmond area recruits per On3's Composite ranking which shows how impressive of a group this is.

Rankings vary greatly on Cotman among VA recruits from 4th by Rivals to 33rd by On3. However, his top 5 VA ranking by Rivals means that Cotman is the first VT commit to be ranked in the top 5 in VA by one of the four major recruiting services (On3, 247, Rivals, ESPN) since WR Jaden Payoute in the 2019 class. That's another big step in the right direction for the Hokies landing top in-state talent.
