Three-star DB Brody Barnhardt out of Charlotte, NC has emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top 2024 safety targets. Tech has plenty of traction having made his top 3 previously with Barnhardt looking to visit the Hokies and a few others soon as he told us.

"I’m trying to finalize the exact schedule in the next few days, but I plan to get to VT for a spring practice in late March. I plan to do the same at NC State. Some time in April, I’m going to head back up to Wisconsin to a practice too. It’s possible that I’ll try to get to WVU also, just not sure about that one yet," Barnhardt said.

Barnhardt added that the current date he is looking to visit Blacksburg is March 23rd though he's working with safeties coach Pierson Prioleau to set up the best date possible for him.

While Barnhardt doesn't currently have anyone standing out for him. It does seem like a few teams continue to separate themselves with Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and NC State among those recruiting Barnhardt the hardest.

Leading the charge for the Hokies has been safeties coach Pierson Prioleau and defensive analyst Jeron Gouveia-Winslow. He had this to say about his relationship with Prioleau.

"It’s good, we have stayed in close contact since they offered me," Barnhardt said.

He had this to say about his relationship with Gouveia-Winslow.

"It’s good. He was one of the first coaches that I met at VT when I came up for camp freshman summer," Barnhardt said.

The pursuit of Barnhardt by several big time Power 5 programs shouldn't come as a surprise after he had 102 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense plus 1,105 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns on offense to help his team win a state championship. He had this to say about the strengths of his game that have helped him develop into a big time recruit.

"I play fast, physical, and have a high football IQ," Barnhardt said.

Those strengths are part of why he feels he would fit well in Virginia Tech's defense.

"I think I would be a good fit. They play physical and fast defense, and that is how I play," Barnhardt said.

Looking ahead, Barnhardt told us that he plans to "try and decide between April and June" where he will be playing his college football at so any visit at this point is significant for making that push.

Virginia Tech remains right in the hunt for three-star DB Brody Barnhardt who will be back on campus in just a few weeks.
